LPH Hosts Fall COM 1100 Speech Contest

On  Wednesday, November 9th, Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) hosted the semiannual COM 1100 Speech Contest.  Earlier in the semester,

COM 1100 and HON 1130 instructors selected students from their classes to present in a semi-final round. From that round, eight students advanced to the final round held in the Massey Boardroom:

  • Ryleigh Green |The Harms of Standardized Testing
  • Chelsea Rusaw |Ocean Conservancy
  • Dane Swenson |The Power of Psilocybin Therapy
  • Aliya Rix |Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome
  • Elizabeth Spurling |How to Profile
  • Colin Anderson |Colorful Clouds and Simple Science
  • Mikayla McGrory |How TikTok Impacts Modern Society

Lambda Pi Eta President, Kaitlyn Mashburn served as Master of Ceremonies for the event. Mashburn and LPH members, Lydia Maes and Josie Nicholson judged semi-final rounds, and Olivia Williams served as host for the event.

Speech & Debate Team coaches/members Luke Litz, Jace Wilder and Emma Johansson judged the final round

Ryleigh Green placed first, Aliya Rix placed second and Dane Swenson placed third.
