Communication Students Present at Belmont Undergraduate Research Symposium

Communication Studies and Corporate Communication presented their research at the annual Belmont Undergraduate Research Symposium April 21.  The Student Research Panel “The World As I See It” included papers in progress from communication students Josie Edwards, Caroline Elliott, Cameron Fish, Jack Tucker. Professor Michelle Shaw served as faculty advisor for the panel, and the papers originated in her COM 4200 Communication Analysis course.

The panel showcased the panelists’ interpretations on a range of artifacts including the film How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Ross and Rachel’s “break” on Friends, the portrayal of Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs, and a feminist read of Marvel’s Sharon Carter. The panel also included a paper on the systemic causes of homelessness from Pearce Newman, a student outside of the major.

If you are interested in presenting at BURS next year, see Professor Shaw!
