On Wednesday, October 28th, the Lambda Pi Eta hosted the semi-annual COM 1100 Speech Contest via Zoom. Earlier in the semester, COM 1100 instructors were asked to encourage students to submit videos of their informative speeches from class. A panel of faculty and LPH officers chose the finalists. Five students advanced from the video submissions:
- Leah Harms | “Wearing a Face Mask”
- Jared Carwile | “Social Justice and Sports”
- Abigail Kitakule | “Why we Need Model Organisms”
- Luke Litz | “Fake News and Social Media: How to Navigate the Internet in the Misinformation Age”
- Devyn Porter | “Enneagram Speaks the Love Languages”
Lambda Pi Eta officers, Ayanté Williams and Abigail Roering volunteered for the event serving as MC and chat monitor.
The attendees chose first and second place winners using a Zoom poll.
Abigail Kitakule (pictured) placed first, and Luke Litz (Communication Studies minor) placed second. Along with their bragging rights, the winners took home Amazon gift cards.
If you missed the contest, you can go view it in the Intellectual Well-Being category of WELLCore or view it here.
