Development Intern – The Next Door

DEVELOPMENT INTERN – SERVICE DESCRIPTION

The Next Door (TND) seeks a reliable volunteer Intern for Fall Semester 2019 to assist a dynamic team of Development staff who serve in a faith-based, nonprofit organization and addiction treatment center for women.  The purpose of The Next Door is to provide a continuum of evidence-based substance abuse and mental health services to women in an environment of faith to restore hope and a lifetime of recovery.

TND’s Development team is responsible for raising $2 million from a variety of funding sources (churches, corporate support, grants, individual donors, and special events).

Projects for the Development Intern include, but are not limited to:

Community Outreach:

  • Research new corporations with charitable giving programs and obtain key individuals’ contact information.
  • Find new women’s groups, civic organizations, and churches where TND staff can bring speaking engagements.
  • Find new businesses with whom we can partner in the community that give a portion of their proceeds to us… example: Farm Burger, Fox Moving, etc.
  • Develop a specific marketing plan for Headmasters and Principals of local schools who need to know about TND’s services for women.

  • Find other creative ways to increase awareness of The Next Door to places, businesses, or prospective donors that may not yet know about TND’s services.

Local church outreach:

  • Devise a plan for church outreach (ongoing efforts to communicate with them, invitations for special events, attending prayer walks, etc.).
  • Devise a plan for church appreciation (specific, quarterly activity to thank our supporting churches).
  • Come up with criteria for “True Blue” church partnership initiative to start in 2020.

Donor database management:

  • Work in donor database to update contacts from prospective churches, community contacts, and donor prospects.
  • Add specific “codes” to donors who have attended events or toured the facility, so our data is more specific and updated.
  • Run informative reports on donor types and help customize and prepare donor-specific mailings.

Event planning:

  • Assist Development team with planning and executing monthly informational sessions, fall Benefit, and community panel discussions.
  • Contact local businesses to obtain silent auction donations for major fundraising events.

Marketing:

  • Highly creative to help move development team forward with fresh, new ideas which will increase awareness, partnerships, and fundraising for The Next Door.
  • Graphic design skills preferred.
