DEVELOPMENT INTERN – SERVICE DESCRIPTION
The Next Door (TND) seeks a reliable volunteer Intern for Fall Semester 2019 to assist a dynamic team of Development staff who serve in a faith-based, nonprofit organization and addiction treatment center for women. The purpose of The Next Door is to provide a continuum of evidence-based substance abuse and mental health services to women in an environment of faith to restore hope and a lifetime of recovery.
TND’s Development team is responsible for raising $2 million from a variety of funding sources (churches, corporate support, grants, individual donors, and special events).
Projects for the Development Intern include, but are not limited to:
Community Outreach:
- Research new corporations with charitable giving programs and obtain key individuals’ contact information.
- Find new women’s groups, civic organizations, and churches where TND staff can bring speaking engagements.
- Find new businesses with whom we can partner in the community that give a portion of their proceeds to us… example: Farm Burger, Fox Moving, etc.
- Develop a specific marketing plan for Headmasters and Principals of local schools who need to know about TND’s services for women.
- Help with Client Incentive Program by asking local businesses (Sonic, Zaxby’s, Starbucks, etc.) for $5.00 gift cards to give to clients with strong attendance and recovery success who attend IOP, RCC and Aftercare.
- Find other creative ways to increase awareness of The Next Door to places, businesses, or prospective donors that may not yet know about TND’s services.
Local church outreach:
- Devise a plan for church outreach (ongoing efforts to communicate with them, invitations for special events, attending prayer walks, etc.).
- Devise a plan for church appreciation (specific, quarterly activity to thank our supporting churches).
- Come up with criteria for “True Blue” church partnership initiative to start in 2020.
Donor database management:
- Work in donor database to update contacts from prospective churches, community contacts, and donor prospects.
- Add specific “codes” to donors who have attended events or toured the facility, so our data is more specific and updated.
- Run informative reports on donor types and help customize and prepare donor-specific mailings.
Event planning:
- Assist Development team with planning and executing monthly informational sessions, fall Benefit, and community panel discussions.
- Contact local businesses to obtain silent auction donations for major fundraising events.
Marketing:
- Review each TND handout / flier / invitation and give it a similar look, color scheme, etc.
- Prepare donor information packets for use with donor tours and other visitors.
- Research billboard companies to see if any of them offer FREE publicity for nonprofit organizations.
- Assist with taking pictures / videos and devising content for social media posts.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficient with computer skills and a quick learner of database management who doesn’t mind data entry work and efforts to increase efficiency for TND’s development team.
- Self-motivated and can take direction well.
- Highly creative to help move development team forward with fresh, new ideas which will increase awareness, partnerships, and fundraising for The Next Door.
- Graphic design skills preferred.
- Career interest in Non-profit Management, Marketing, or Christian ministry preferred.
- Can work at least 15 hours/week, on a voluntary basis or for course credit at The Next Door’s Nashville facility (402 22nd Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37203).
