Hey guys! Burton and LT here telling you about the events of day 6 in Kenya.

 

Today we woke up at the crack of dawn to the sound of an actual rooster crow outside of our windows and only 5 new mosquito bites. If you were curious I (LT) currently have 18 mosquito bites. Super fun. We woke up so early though because today we went on a Safari at the national park at Lake Nakuru! We were really surprised at how quickly we saw an array of animals, including flamingos (LT’s personal favorite), water buffalo, warthogs, cranes and different birds, baboons (Burton’s personal favorite for some reason), giraffes, zebras, water bucks, lizards, a long distance baby rhino sighting, and even lions. Since the group split up in two different vans, our group was the first to spot the lions and told the others to hurry over on the radio, forcing the other driver come speeding around the curvy dirt road. We saw two female lions that were basically just chilling by the road and weren’t concerned with us at all. We had multiple photographers on the trip, but Ellie sacrificed it all with the sunburn she got from hanging out of the top of the truck to get the best shot of all the animals.

After spending all morning in the national park , we headed back over to Streams of Hope High School to give Burton one last chance at scoring a goal in soccer. Though this wasn’t even close to happening, the basketball court is now affectionately named “Burton’s Court” after Team Fundamental (Burton and LT) took down Seth and his team of showboats in an epic three game championship series. We had a great time with the kids and said our goodbyes as we headed to Section 58 to say goodbye to the other boys. Over the course of the week, we spent a lot of time with the section 58 boys and got to know them really well, so saying goodbye was one of the hardest parts of the trip. Everyone made us feel so welcomed at home at Section 58 and we formed relationships with the boys and the people that worked there that will last a lifetime. We couldn’t have asked for a better time today to wrap up our trip and we are so grateful to the wonderful people of Nakuru!
