Dominican Republic 2018

Day 2: Dominican Republic – Morning

We started the day at 7:00am with a filling breakfast. It’s really neat getting to eat the local food. We all LOVE the pineapple, but here are everyone’s favorite foods so far:
Hayley – Besitos de Coco
Audrey – chicken
Chelsea – fried cheese
Me (Georgia) – avocados
Autumn – assorted bread
Elison – fried cheese
Brooklin – chicken (shocker)
Bailey – breakfast salami
Baylee – rice
Sami – juice
Molly – breakfast salami
Alicia – rice and pork
Cheyenne – pork ribs
Coach Levin – Besitos de Coco
Ms. Michelle – pork
Coach Thomas – breakfast salami

After breakfast, we traveled to O & M College in Santo Domingo where we played their softball team! This was an incredible experience. Coach Levin asked us if we ever imagined playing in another country and we all agreed that it was always just a dream we had as little girls. The Dominican players were kind to us and laughed when we tried to speak Spanish. After we gained a pretty good lead, we had some fun and played in positions we normally wouldn’t get to :). Molly and Elison were excellent on the mound and only gave up one run while the usual pitchers (Alicia, Autumn & Brooklin) killed it in the outfield.

Mom, I forgot my sunscreen and got really red – sorry…it’s hot.

After our game, we gathered with the Dominican team and told them the story of Job where he never gives up on God, despite his many trials. We then showed them a demonstration of how this applies to us in softball. We rolled Sami and Baylee ground balls and they both pretended to miss it. Sami responded by taking a deep breath to focus on the next one, whereas Baylee got frustrated and threw her glove. We explained how we as softball players have to take a deep breath and trust the process when we make a mistake. We related this to life, too, how when things don’t go our way, we have to trust God and respond with grace. This was an incredible opportunity and we look forward to the rest of the games this week!

Stay tuned to hear about our time in the sugarcane village!

Prayer: that we impact the families we interact with and have a life changing experience!
