History of PR at Belmont

Belmont University’s Department of Public Relations evolved from the Public Relations Program that began within the Department of Media Studies in 2004. The academic program quickly flourished, and the number of PR students surpassed those enrolled in other majors within the department.

University administrators recognized the program’s growth, success and potential. They established a separate Department of Public Relations in 2012.

We measure success in myriad ways, including the career accomplishments of our graduates. Our graduates are working successfully throughout the United States and beyond. Our graduates are working not only throughout Middle Tennessee but also in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington, Dallas, Orlando, Atlanta, Denver, etc.

Some of our graduates have continued in graduate school in law, public health administration, higher education, mass communication, counseling, nursing.

Today our students are preparing to make a difference in the world through their work as strategic communication professionals in agencies, corporations and nonprofits–in entertainment, leisure, retail, entertainment,  government, politics, health care, education, etc.

Our students are in demand as interns, with dozens of them placed in public relations internships in Nashville and New York City this semester.  Our graduates are in demand for employment, with some of them receiving multiple employment offers upon graduation. The demand for outstanding public relations graduates will remain high in the coming years, according to the U. S. Department of Labor.

Our history is impressive, and our future is bright.
