The Perennial Plant Society of Mid-Tenn is a 30-year old group of approximately 225 members who come together once a month to share knowledge about perennials and horticulture. Meetings with expert speakers are free to the public. PPS also supports an annual horticultural scholarship through TSU. Our principal funding source is an annual plant sale held in April.
Position Description & Responsibilities:
PPS is seeking a part-time paid intern to help us build our social media (and perhaps web) presence. Our principal goals are to grow membership, build ties with others in the Middle Tenn. gardening community and attract customers to our annual plant sale.
We see the intern as a key part of our social media team who can provide advice and create suggestions as well as do the actual mechanics of the posting. As we see the job now, after a short ramp up period, we would want the intern to post at least two posts a week on Facebook and Instagram following our editorial calendar. Possibly accelerating to three in month before plant sale. We would expect the intern to create the post (with our input), help refine the postings through simple analytics, and assist in posting some ads for the plant sale.
We have envisioned this as a six-month commitment from Dec. 2021-May 2022. However, we will have ongoing needs, so we would be open to continuing the relationship or taking on another intern.
Qualifications:
Our intern should have a good knowledge of how to create compelling posts that convey our message. He/She/They should bring creativity and willingness to help direct the overall calendar. Knowledge of the mechanics of Facebook and Instagram. Knowledge/interest in gardening preferred.
Time Commitment:
As noted above, we would expect two to three posts a week, plus some time doing other tasks like analytics. I would guess maybe 3 hours a week.
Compensation:
We would be willing to pay $125 a month, plus an additional $100 for the first month ramp-up period.
Location:
Remote
Application Process:
Please email your resume and a sample gardening post to mariwynevans@att.net by Nov. 22. Ideally, we would like to do a ramp up period in Dec., with posting beginning Jan 2. However, we are somewhat flexible given the holidays, exams, etc.
Other Things to Know:
If possible, we would like to have one in-person meeting with the intern to go over the program, but this isn’t essential.
