COM 1100 Speech Contest

Lambda Pi Eta hosted the semi-annual COM 1100 Speech Contest on Thursday evening, October 25th. A semi-final round was held on Monday, October 21, and six finalists were chosen to compete in the final round. The six finalists presented their informative speeches on a variety of topics. Lambda Pi Eta officer, Michael Payne, was the master of ceremonies, and Lambda Pi Eta members, faculty, and alumni served as judges for the event.

Nicole Jones, a sophomore publishing major from Chattanooga, Tennessee, took first place with her speech entitled “Disney World for the Kid at Heart.”  Wade Hoelcel, a junior Liberal Arts major from Van Buren, Arkansas, received second place for his speech, “CRISPR.” Rileigh Skelton, sophomore public relations major from Franklin, Tennessee, finished in third place with her speech, “Is Laughter Contagious?”

Other finalists were: Tori Berry, a sophomore from Mason, Ohio, double majoring in Global Leadership Studies and Spanish; Molly Lyon, a sophomore Music Business major from Dover, Delaware; and Hayden Smith, a sophomore Accounting and Finance major.
