Position Description
Location: Hybrid with approximately 1-day per week in the NPLF office, Nashville Public Library, 615 Church St, Nashville, TN 37206. A computer cannot be provided, so the intern must use their personal computer when working remotely.
Hours: 5-15 hours per week, dependent on intern availability
Duration: June and July 2022, but can be adjusted depending on intern’s schedule
Salary: This position is unpaid, but the position will include a complimentary 1-year membership to the Next Chapter Society. Parking expenses will be covered when working in the office.
Job Purpose
This internship is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience of Nashville Public Library Foundation’s work in community giving, and particularly the Next Chapter Society. It will be of particular interest to someone wanting to gain knowledge of and experience with nonprofit fundraising and the NPL library system.
As an intern, you will provide general support to the team but will be focused on assisting the Director of Community Giving with the Next Chapter Society, community outreach, stewardship, and data entry.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Assisting with promotion and coordination of the NCS t-shirt campaign, to include communicating with influencers to provide messaging, obtain t-shirt sizes, t-shirt delivery, and stewardship.
- Making donor thank you calls and sending notes
- Adding donor information and actions to into The Raiser’s Edge database
- Identifying and representing NCS/NPLF at community events
- Attending and assisting with monthly Library 101 Tours, if possible
- Attending bi-weekly Fundraisers’ Meetings
- General administrative support when needed
Qualifications
Essential
- The ideal candidate will have a passion for the mission of NPLF to fundraise and advocate for Nashville Public Library.
- IT skills – experience of MS Office, particularly Word and Excel, and Google docs.
- Excellent telephone manner and writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, as the task requires
- Excellent organizational skills; accuracy and attention to detail
- Proactive, creative, and enthusiastic
- Ability to carry out administrative duties effectively
- Desire to learn, develop and advance personal fundraising experience
- Keen interest in working in the nonprofit sector, particularly fundraising
Desirable
- Experience with The Raiser’s Edge database or an aptitude to learn the software
- Experience with managing a fundraising and/or marketing campaigns
- Experience in relationship management or marketing and sales
- A current NPL user
