Dr. Jimmy Davis was recently named the Chaney Distinguished Professor Award for 2018-2019. The prestigious award represents the highest teaching honor in the university and is based on student and faculty nominations.
Following is an excerpt from the award ceremony program:
Dr. Davis has been at Belmont since 1987. He taught Communication Studies for 12 years before spending 15 years in administration where he served as founding Dean of the University College and Associate Provost for Academic Affairs. He returned to full-time teaching in 2013. His teaching interests include development of student communication skills in organizational and civic settings…
As one recent student observed, “Dr. Davis applied real word situations… his classes were always entertaining and challenging while leaving students with a take-away. He asked us to give our elevator pitches literally in the JAAC elevators, had us participate in activities outside of the classroom, and continually pushed us to ask questions and strive for better… I wish every Belmont student could take this course because it has been so useful!”
Congratulations to Dr. Davis on a well-deserved honor!
