Communications Intern – The Joseph School (Summer)

The Joseph School is a 501c3 nonprofit organization supporting a primary school focused on giving
orphaned and disadvantaged Haitian children a world-class education and equipping them to
assume leadership roles.

During this 8-week internship (May 20 to July 12, 2019), the Communication Intern will will be
assigned a broad range of tasks that ensure an understanding of communication and development
— public relations, content marketing, graphic design, donor acquisition, relations and retention.
Under the direct supervision of our Director of Engagement, the intern will:

Communications
● Draft content for social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
● Create and coordinate content for social media campaigns and observances
● Research best practices and develop content strategies specific to nonprofit industry
● Maintain the organizations’ content calendar
● Help draft and design communications and outreach materials including print, web and newsletter (internal and external communications)
● Draft content for website blog

Development
● Learn features from our comprehensive donor database; data and gift entry
● Draft and send timely acknowledgement letters to donors
● Generate accurate donor reports and create donor prospect segments
● Assist in creating and compiling student sponsorship packets representing The Joseph

School
● General foundation research, reporting and coordination
● Support projects and general administrative tasks of the Administrative Specialist and Director of Engagement

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Ideal candidate is a recent graduate (graduated within the past year) or an undergraduate/graduate student in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or a related field.

Skills Desired

  • Social media experience with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and others
  • Microsoft Office and/or G Suite proficiency
  • Working knowledge of wordpress or a similar website management platform
  • Working knowledge of Hootsuite, Buffer, or Social Sprout
  • Basic to intermediate graphic design training using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and/or
    Photoshop

The successful candidate will have a desire to serve others and passion for helping people across
cultures. This person will have a deep desire to grow his/her relationship with Jesus to reflect love,
kindness and compassion to others. The successful candidate will understand the need for The
Joseph School while experiencing an excitement about being involved in such a mission.

Working Conditions
This internship is 8-weeks (May 20 to July 12 with moderate flexibility) and unpaid.
The intern will be scheduled 20 hours per week, four (4) days a week from 9 am – 2 pm.
Downtown parking permit will be provided.
