Dr. Webb Leads Study Abroad in Sweden and Cuba

In the past two years, 22 students have studied in Scandinavia with Dr. Nathan Webb. In the first year, they studied in Stockholm and Uppsala, Sweden, and last year, they added Copenhagen to the trip. Students received course credit for COM 3150 Intercultural Communication, general education social science, Third Year Writing (with Dr. Susan Finch), and/or Social Justice (with Dr. Jenny Crowell)

This coming summer, Dr. Webb will teach COM 3150 Intercultural Communication in Havana Cuba (June 4-18 with prep work before). The program is called: Belmont in Cuba: Writing, Fashion, & Intercultural Communication. Students will have the opportunity to complete 3-9 hours of the following courses:

This 14-day excursion is an adventure in Havana and the surrounding areas to experience the history and culture of Cuba and to investigate the ways which politics and history impact literature, fashion, culture and communication.

  • Cooking lesson on an organic farm
  • Guided Tour of Old Havana
  • Workshops with local street theater group and Cuban writers
  • Day Trips to Mantanzas and Playas del Este

  • Guided Tour of Hemingway House/Museum
  • Museum visits and tours

DID YOU KNOW? All study abroad courses have a special tuition rate of 1/3 the cost of normal tuition.  For every 3 hours of study abroad credit you register for, you pay for only one hour. This helps to off-set the cost of the trip. The cost of going on a 6 or 9 hour trip is about the same or less than taking those courses here on campus in the summer.
