Belmont Hosts Coffee Connection, Kicks off Campus-Wide Supplier Diversity Program

Diverse suppliers speak with Belmont purchasing managers about upcoming opportunities for business.

Belmont hosted its Coffee Connection Supplier Fair on Thursday, June 1, as part of the university’s newly expanded Supplier Diversity Program. Created two years ago to increase the number of minority suppliers the University hires, the pilot program included only a few select departments across campus. Recently, the program has been expanded campus-wide and includes minority- and women-owned businesses.

Students Celebrate Music with Seniors, Write Songs Based on Their Lives

“These six songs didn’t exist 24 hours ago,” Belmont Songwriting Lecturer James Tealy said. “They only existed as seeds and dreams in your story…and now they’re songs. Isn’t that a beautiful thing?” 

Senior songwriting and music business major Emily Falvey sat on a piano bench and readied her fingers. She took a deep breath, moved towards the microphone and began singing to the crowd, a group of residents from the Heritage in Brentwood, a local senior citizens home. The facility was full of listeners, all eager to hear the story Falvey told through her words — but it wasn’t her story she was telling.

Belmont Wins Inaugural Siloam Health’s Bridge Builder Award

Award given to recognize community partner committed to assisting Nashville’s New Americans

In honor of the University’s commitment to helping New Americans throughout the Nashville community, Belmont was recently honored with Siloam Health’s inaugural Bridge Builders Award. Belmont President Dr. Bob Fisher accepted the award at Siloam’s Amplify Nashville Awards Ceremony held on June 22 at Oz Arts. Belmont’s award by presented by Milton Johnson, CEO of HCA and Belmont trustee.

Tennessee Health Care Hall of Fame Announces 2017 Inductees

Hall of Fame’s third class represents Tennessee’s greatest health and health care pioneers.

Strong First Destination Rate Signals Good Returns on a Belmont Education

The 1,100+ students who recently graduated from Belmont, and their families, can take comfort in the strong first destination rate (career outcomes) that the University historically achieves. First destination data reflects the percentage of graduates who secure employment, enroll in graduate school or enlist in military service within six months of graduation. For Belmont, which draws that information from student and alumni surveys, the most recent rate is 92 percent, significantly higher than the national average.

Belmont Receives Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award

Belmont was recently recognized by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Matrineau as a 2017 Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award recipient. The award recognizes exceptional voluntary actions that improve or protect the environment and natural resources with projects or initiatives not required by law or regulation. This is the second year in a row that Belmont has been honored with the designation.
