Hosted by the University’s Sustainability Committee, the week-long celebration featured many events that provided opportunities for the Belmont community to engage in important conversations surrounding conservation.

Six students from the Jack C. Massey College of Business won first place in at the 2018 DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) last week. Out of 27 Belmont students who competed, 20 were judged as international finalists—the best-ever overall showing by a Belmont team.
Long-time Belmont supporter and music business leader Mike Curb and his wife Linda recently made possible a $2 million endowment to rename Belmont’s Institute for Innovative Faith-Based Leadership as the Reverend Charlie Curb Center for Faith Leadership in honor of Mike Curb’s grandfather, Charlie McCloud Curb. Begun in June 2016, the Center was established to provide continuing education opportunities for pastors and leaders of faith-based organizations. The Center is focused on creating stronger leadership for local congregations and ministries.
Ray Posada, a 2013 Belmont alumnus and teacher at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (MSD), visited Belmont’s campus this week to share his experiences and insights with students. Initially planning to encourage education majors with a message about remaining in their chosen career path, Posada found himself sharing his story with students from across campus, reminding them to support teachers across the company in their classroom endeavors.
The Office of Communications (OC) traveled with Belmont’s Women’s Basketball team to Athens, Georgia for the first round of the NCAA Tournament where the Bruins took on the Duke University Blue Devils on Saturday, March 17. Seeking to learn more about the team, Head Coach Bart Brooks and the overall program, the OC members spent nearly 60 hours at the big dance.
Belmont University President Dr. Bob Fisher was recently named as CEO of the Year by the Nashville Post. Detailing countless accomplishments since his arrival on campus in 2000, the Post’s feature story highlights the nearly 18 years Fisher has been President of the University including steady student enrollment growth from about 3,000 when he arrived to more than 8,000 today, an impressive student-to-teacher ratio and Belmont’s continued educational quality, among many other things.
Award-winning singer and songwriter Garth Brooks brought gasps and cheers to Homecoming 2018 on Friday, February 23 with a surprise appearance at the 6th annual Homecoming in the Round concert, an event hosted each year by songwriter and Belmont alum Gordon Kennedy.
The Curb Event Center was full earlier this month as more than 3,000 people from Belmont and the surrounding community flooded its seats to watch the Belmont Bruins men’s basketball team defeat Eastern Kentucky (84-73) and women’s basketball achieve an astounding 95-62 win against the same opponent.
The USTA recently announced that Belmont University has been selected as the host site for the 2018 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group Quarterfinal between the United States and Belgium, April 6-8.
