Corporate Communications student or entrepreneur? Regan Meyer is a junior Corporate Communications major who is bringing an innovative clothing company, Share to Wear, to Belmont’s campus. Originally from Middlebury University in Vermont, Share to Wear was started by a group of friends who wanted to expand their shared closet to their entire college campus in 2016.
“Share to Wear is a peer-to-peer dress rental exchange service. We are changing the way femme-identifying college students interact with fashion one transaction at a time. We prioritize sustainability, affordability, and accessibility!”
But how exactly does it work? Dress owners can bring their clothing to the store location to be reviewed. If accepted as inventory, dress owners will receive 40% of the rental fee and can take their dresses back whenever they would like. Customers can rent a dress until the following Monday and then return the item.
Regan wanted to get involved with Share to Wear because the company is “committed to creating an empowering community in support of sustainable fashion.” It increases accessibility to clothing on campus while reducing the fashion industry’s impact on the environment. She hopes to bring Share to Wear to other college campuses as well, collaborating with Vanderbilt and Trevecca to create a clothing destination for all Nashville students.
Eventually Regan plans to launch a storefront or pop-up location to “give students access to a closet that is full of looks that make them look and feel good,” while also creating a community among students.
