Political Campaign Internship

Interns will be placed in a variety of roles and taught skills relating to voter engagement, voter turnout, volunteer training and management, fundraising, and more. Interns will work under the supervision of the campaign manager as well as the campaign’s volunteer coordinator.

Bob Freeman for House Representative interns should commit to at least 10 hours per week for high
school students and 16 hours for college students, at least half of which must take place during the
week.  Scheduling will be in two hour blocks and times available are 2-8 M-F, 10-8 Sat and 2-7 Sun.

At least 60% of each intern’s time will be spent in the field campaign which includes voter ID, voter persuasion, and get-out- the-vote work by phone and door to door canvassing as well as volunteer recruitment and scheduling. This work also includes compiling the results and will present an opportunity to learn about voter targeting. Interested interns will also learn how to train volunteer canvassers and how to lead and manage canvass operations of their own.

Additional areas of involvement can include working on campaign communications including creating campaign emails, event invitations, and press releases.  Interns may also be asked to assist with research various political issues as well as assisting the finance team with their research.

Other opportunities will undoubtedly present themselves during the campaign for those interns who show an aptitude for specific areas of the operation but this should provide a good overview of what activities are available along with the time commitment required.

If you have any questions please call 615.710.1292 or email heather@votebobfreeman.com. We will be accepting applications starting April 20th and interns will be able to start immediately. The internship will end after the general election on November 6 th or at a time decided between the intern and campaign manager.
