From the Office of New Student & Parent Programs
Dear Belmont Parent,
As the 2011-12 academic year starts I’ve had the privilege of saying “Welcome to Belmont” many times over the last few months as I’ve helped orient the Class of 2015 and the new transfer students. It always a joy to have new members join the Belmont community and see how they begin to explore this place and take ownership of their education and experience.
Whether you’re a parent of a new student or your student has enjoyed their time at Belmont you’re probably aware of the energy and excitement that is happening at the university. Entering into the 2011-12 academic year enrollment has topped 6,300 total students propelled by a strong freshmen class, transfer students and the first cohort for the School of Law. The university continues to expand to meet the needs of all our students by breaking ground on new upper class student housing in June. At Opening Convocation, on the first day of classes, President Fisher announced the plans for a new 160,000 square foot academic building that will be located on the corner of 15th and Wedgewood.
Early each month the Parent FYI E-newsletter will bring the energy and excitement of campus directly to your inbox. Belmont regularly communicates with students through the Student FYI to keep them informed of university news and information. The Parent FYI is a similar communication containing news and information from Belmont and helping you connect to resources on Belmont's website.
I hope that you’ll be able to join us for Parent and Family Weekend, September 30 – October 2 and experience some of the energy yourself.
Welcome back to another great year at Belmont!

College Parent 101 Website
If you have attended new student orientation in June then you’ve had the chance to hear form Dane Anthony, adjunct faculty in the School of Religion, speak on the transitions families face when they have a student starting college. Year after year the College Parent 101 session continues to receive amazing positive feedback and is our most popular parent session.
The College Parent 101 web site is a new resource designed specifically to address transition issues for parents of new college students. You will find tips for successful parenting, access to helpful resources, regular blog postings, and a brand new DVD of Dane Anthony's College Parent 101 session (including a number of resources not available anywhere else).
