Share.”  This is the cycle Lumos student travelers will experience, living A Working Adventure, educating themselves from the inside out, becoming more engaged citizens of both the world and their own communities. This is what we mean when we say: the Lumos Student Travel Award is about Travel with a Purpose.

As students transition into independent adults, having the widest range of experiences possible will be invaluable in contemplating and pursuing the direction of their future. The Lumos Travel Award offers a different sort of educational experience to students who are willing to take on the challenge of learning from the world outside the familiar settings of home and classroom.

The Mission of the Lumos Travel Award is to allow young adults to learn about the world in a practical and challenging way, by enabling students to become involved in a local community for an extended period of time. As Lumos Travelers engage with new places, new people, and new ideas, they will take important steps to discover their skills and abilities as they gravitate to those things which will give meaning to their lives.

The goal of Lumos Foundation, in funding these awards, is for this working adventure to be a defining experience in the lives of award recipients, allowing them to return home with a different perspective on themselves and the world, illuminated from within in ways that will inform their future choices as they become active citizens in their own communities.
